If you want to make the best packs, use the best materials. CORDURA® is a cornerstone fabric for us, look for the official hang tag and label on products using this fabric. CORDURA® Classic fabric provides rugged, durable performance for a variety of end uses, including packs, luggage, and footwear. Products made with CORDURA® Classic fabrics feature enhanced tear and abrasion resistance, and long-lasting durability. CORDURA® Classic fabric is constructed with qualifying yarns which are woven in accordance with INVISTA's approved fabric standards for the CORDURA® brand. All of our nylon fabrics are finished with a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) on the face to further enhance the function and quality of the finished products. On the backside, a PU coating is also used to enhance the stability of the fabric.

1680D Nylon / DWR / PU Coated

For high stress areas, you may find 1680D Ballistic Nylon. It is a thick, tough, nylon fabric used for a variety of applications. Ballistic nylon was originally developed by the DuPont Corporation as a material for flak jackets to be worn by World War II airmen. Modern applications of ballistic nylon include luggage, cave packs, tool belts, police duty belts, motorcycle jackets, knife sheaths, and skin-on-frame kayaks.

The original specification for ballistic nylon was an 18 ounce nylon fabric made from 1050 denier high tenacity nylon yarn in a 2x2 basket weave. Today the term is often used to refer to any nylon fabric that is made with a "ballistic weave", typically a 2x2 or 2x3 basket weave.

Fabric labeled as Martexin® Original Wax is one of our finest products. These goods are generally mercerized and dyed with reactive dyes for the very best dye penetration, intensity and brightness of color, with virtually no observable crocking, bleeding, etc. Don’t be fooled by imitations, this process has the technical capability to produce to these standards of quality which exceed the market & customers’ demands. Martexin® Original Wax fabrics are durable, water resistant, and long lasting. By nature they age well, and patina over time giving them all the character you would expect, and show the markings of a bag’s life well lived.

Martexin® Original Wax Care

Martexin® Original Wax is a highly specialized textile that precludes normal cleaning. Just as you wouldn't wash a leather product such as shoes, gloves, or jackets, you won’t be able to wash or dry clean your Martexin® Original Wax. Wax fabrics have been successfully used for many years without washing. A periodic cleaning with a hose and damp cloth is all that is needed. Bare areas can be refinished with our Martexin® Original Wax refinishing compound (or Nikwax), which can help restore the wax finish and insure many more years of travel.

Cans of wax conditioner can be purchased directly from us. It is the same Martexin® Original Wax generations old formula in 1.5 oz. tins. Helps to restore and re-waterproof any and all of our packs and bags. Use with a little bit of heat to get the conditioner to sink in. Non toxic and environmentally friendly.

Sundown® Solution Dyed Fabric

Made in Spain

Also known as dope or spun dyeing, Solution Dyed fabric is the process of adding pigments or insoluble dyes to the spinning solution before the solution is extruded through the spinneret. Only manufactured fibers can be solution dyed. Solution dyeing is used for difficult-to-dye fibers such as olefin fibers, and for dyeing fibers for end uses that require excellent colorfastness properties. Because the color pigments become a part of the fiber, solution dyed materials have excellent colorfastness to light washing, crocking (rubbing), perspiration, and bleach. Dyeing at the solution stage is more expensive since the equipment has to be cleaned thoroughly each time a different color is produced. The Sundown® fabric collection provides incomparable natural protection from the heat and the sun.

Durable Water Repellent (DWR) 

Most of our waterproof and water resistant bags are treated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating. Over time this coating needs to be replenished as the garment is exposed to use and washing. If your product no longer beads up when exposed to water it is a good indication that it is time to treat your garment with a DWR finish.

There are many good DWR products on the market available for purchase. We recommended McNETT REVIVEX DURABLE WATERPROOFING SPRAY. As a general rule, we recommend using a spray-on DWR treatment when you wish to reapply the treatment in between hand washes. 

We urge you to spot clean before apply DWR. Be sure to target seams and high impact areas when applying. For best results, we suggest to hang dry your product.

TiZip®

Made in Germany

The TIZIP® MasterSeal 10 is made from high-strength fabric coated with thermoplastic polyurethane. The extra strong plastic teeth are fixed on the top and bottom of the zipper tape. The zipper’s coupling elements keep the sealing edges tightly sealed together when the zipper is closed. The zipper tape can be both welded and glued. The TIZIP® MasterSeal 10 slider is made from a metal compound, which is non-skin-irritating and salt water resistant. The slider movement is contact free and does not wear on the zipper tape or the sealing edge.

Storage and transportation:

For storage, long- and short term, and during transportation, we recommend to leave the zipper chain closed. The closed chain protects the sealing lips from dirt and damage. High humidity and temperatures over room temperature must be avoided!

Lubrication:

Both ends closed TIZIP® MasterSeal 10 zippers need to be lubricated on the docking end from time to time. Please use the original TIZIP® lubricant or other available zipper lubricants. Carefully apply over the docking end surfaces on front, back and inside where they connect to the zipper chain. Repeat before long term storage leaving the slider closed and whenever the area is dry during use.

Tightness:

The TIZIP® MasterSeal 10 is pressure tested to 500 mbar.

Cleaning:

The TIZIP® MasterSeal 10 is highly resistant to damage caused by dirt or sand. However if dirt or sand are present, the zipper should be cleaned with soap and water. Dirt particles can affect the sealing function if they get caught between the chain profiles.

AquaseaL® zippers designed for maritime safety applications. Combining Vislon® technology with a seal between zipper elements #10 zippers meet 0.3 bar water pressure and each zipper is individually tested and later marked for traceability. Acetal is a crystalline thermoplastic polymer material that has excellent tensile strength, stiffness, surface hardness and chemical resistance. Acetal has excellent flexural memory and property retention when subjected to repeated loading. The service temperature range, or operating temperature range for our products molded from Acetal resin is  -40F to 140F. Acetal is recommended for high performance applications. Physical properties remain consistent across a wide range of temperature, relative humidity, and weather conditions.

Vegetable Dyed Leather Labels

Vegetable tanning is an ancient and traditional craft process that tanneries have passed down over the years. Vegetable tanning shows off leather in it's most natural state. The transformation from raw hides into a material that will last a long time, is a process that happens slowly in wooden drums or in tanning pits. Vegetable tanning is the most environmentally friendly way to tan leather, there are no chemicals used, respecting the environment, due to the use of natural ingredients rather than chemicals. It is an astonishing process based on the use of natural tannins, using modern technologies and machinery, but mainly it relies on the slow passage of time. Among the various tanning methods, vegetable tanning is the most traditional and the most recognizable. It is the only form of tanning that is able to give leather unique characteristics, retaining the natural flaws and markings.

OEKO-Tex Certified Chrome Dyed Leather Labels

Chrome-tanned leather, invented in 1858, is tanned using chromium sulfate and other salts of chromium. We source some of the only Oeko-Tex Certified chrome dyed leather available on the planet. It is more supple and pliable than vegetable-tanned leather and does not discolor or lose shape as drastically in water as vegetable-tanned. It is also known as wet-blue for its color derived from the chromium. More exotic colors are possible when using chrome tanning.
